What does the Large-Scale Events extension cover?

Dogtag’s “Large Scale Events extension” provides you with an additional level of cover for when fate or nature decides to throw a spanner in the works which could cause your to be cancelled or cut short. It covers you for cancellation of your trip, trip delay, missed departure, missed connection, cutting short your trip and substitute accommodation if any of the below happen:

  • A natural catastrophe
  • A terrorism events. (excluding cyber & attacks which involves chemical, nuclear or biological devices)
  • The presence of unauthorised, unmanned aircraft
  • Air traffic control restrictions including airspace closure
  • Failure of air traffic control or airport computer systems
  • An event occurring at your departure point that causes its closure or evacuation

As you can see, the extension provides a range of additional cover against countless events which have the potential to ruin anyone’s trip. As the saying goes, it’s better to be say than sorry!

I’ve Noticed That You Cover “Natural Catastrophes” What Does This Actually Cover?

Here at Dogtag, we define a “natural catastrophe” as any of the following: volcanic eruptions, volcanic ash, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, cyclones, flooding of more than 50 square km, and wildfire of more than 50 square km.

Do You Cover Terrorism?

If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation where you holiday has been affected by an event that has been declared a terrorist attack by the country it occurred in, then you have protection under this extension. However, cover may not be available for the following situations:

  • Cyber terrorism events
  • Any terrorism event which involves chemical, nuclear or biological devices.

How Much Cover Is Included in The Large-Scale Events Policy?

The amount of cancellation cover included in a Dogtag “large scale events” policy depends on the particular policy selected, as this extension simply enhances the basic cover you already have in place, by covering cancellation and curtailment caused by extreme events. Does A Large Scale Events Policy Cover Volcanic Ash Or Volcanic Eruptions?

Yes! The large scale policy  extension provides cover for “natural catastrophes”, and we class a volcanic eruption or volcanic ash as a natural catastrophe.

Does The Large Scale Events Policy Extension Cover Claims Related To COVID-19?

No. This extension does not cover claims that are related to COVID-19. All of our Dogtag policies come with a limited amount of protection against Covid-19. However, you would need to purchase a Covid-19 policy extension if you would like additional cover for the scenarios that you could be caught in.

Does The Large Scale Events Policy Extension Cover Tsunamis?

Yes! The large scale events policy would consider a tsunami to be a natural catastrophe, which is covered in the policy.
