Q. What is meant by ‘unattended’ with respect to property or valuables?
A. The definition of ‘unattended’ is: When You cannot see and are not close enough to Your property or vehicle to prevent unauthorised interference or theft of Your property or vehicle then the item or items are deemed to be unattended. You must take sufficient precautions to secure the safety of Your property such as sports equipment, e.g. bicycles, ski equipment and ski pass or other property such as camera equipment and must not leave them unattended at any time in a place to which the public has access. You should remember that skis & snowboards are most vulnerable to theft at ski base stations and outside bars and restaurants. Bicycles, of course, are always easy to steal. If the property is locked so that it cannot be removed (say, in the case of skis or snowboards, to a ski rack or a bike to railings) then the insurers would consider that ‘special conditions’ have been satisfied.
